As the IO, Dr. Mony has the authority to disapprove or suspend any project at the University. However, this is not the best action in this situation because:
- There may be serious Institutional conflicts of interest that might influence the IO to choose not to suspend the work.
- It is the responsibility of the IACUC to take the necessary steps that will maintain the integrity of the process, protect the IO from investigators who, because of their financial position, assume entitlements or other special considerations, and to protect the public's trust.
- The IACUC must assume control of the situation.
What if the IACUC contact Dr. Bigdolah's chair, Dr. Lyons, and ask that she suspend Dr. Bigdolah's PI privileges on the project? This seems like a solution that might work.
